Ohio ADP Policy Agenda
The Ohio ADP action plan is still being developed, but in his recent state-of-the-state address, Gov. Bob Taft proposed the Ohio Core initiative, which highlights many of the ways the state is moving forward to meet ADP goals. The proposed policies associated with the initiative include:
- Beginning with the class of 2011, require all Ohio students to take the Ohio Core, a rigorous college- and work-ready curriculum, with a provision for parents to sign a waiver exempting their child.
- Make completing the Ohio Core a requirement for admission into Ohio's state colleges and universities by fall 2011.
- Require all students in their junior year to take a college- and work-ready assessment to indicate if they are on track for future success, beginning with the class of 2011.
- Add a measure to the School Report Card to indicate how well graduates are prepared for college and work, including remediation rates in college, scores on the college- and work-ready assessment, and the percentage of students earning college credit while in high school.
- Determine ways to fund colleges and universities based on student course and degree completion, not just enrollment.
In addition, Ohio already is working to develop math and English expectations for credit-bearing work in college, which will be aligned to existing K–12 standards. Achieve will analyze and validate these stanadrds.
