    Indiana’s Education Roundtable’s P-16 Plan for Improving Student Achievement is a campaign developed by a diverse group of stakeholders — educators, business leaders, state legislators, and community members — to create an education pipeline to ensure that all students will have the skills to succeed in today’s world. Following is a set of electronic and print materials used by the Roundtable to gain public support and change public policy. These letters and brochures are designed to facilitate communication with parents of students who perform significantly above or below grade level. Letters to parents of students with disabilities are included, as are Spanish-language versions of all materials.

    PREP has been made possible by the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education, IBJ Corp. and The Sallie Mae Fund. PREP was created as a resource for students to use and share with parents as a valuable tool in preparation for high school. It is an online magazine for middle school students, covering issues like career preparation, the Indiana Core 40, electives, grading, understanding personal learning styles and time management.

    The Indiana Commission for Higher Education is a 14-member public body created in 1971 to define the educational missions of public colleges and universities. The Core 40 InfoCenter gives an overview of the Core 40, outlines diploma requirements, lists academic standards and explains end-of-course assessments. It also contains links to Indiana’s P-16 plan for improving achievement, the Indiana Core 60 Scholars program, an initiative to engage local businesses and the American Diploma Project.

    Indiana’s Core 40 was created to be the academic foundation all students need to succeed in college, apprenticeship programs, military training and the workforce. Core 40 becomes Indiana’s required high school curriculum in fall 2007. This brochure was used to promote the Core 40 program, targeting both parents and students.

  • Indianan Core 40 Scholars

    The Indiana Core 40 Scholars initiative is an effort by school and area business volunteers to encourage students to complete the challenging high school coursework that will prepare them for jobs and higher education after graduation. This toolkit provides samples of information used in these efforts, including incentive and support ideas, presentations for 8th graders, a sample press release, a sample letter to recruit businesses, as well as supplemental presentation slides and information.
