Why are you passionate about education?
“As a student, I witnessed the positive impact educators have on a child’s academic and personal growth. I had some truly inspirational educators in my life who believed in me and inspired within me a deep passion for science and learning. I entered the field of education to share my passion with others and because I realized the positive influence an educator can have in helping a child achieve his or her dreams. As a high school biology teacher, I slowly became aware of the numerous obstacles that my students faced on a daily basis, and I realized that some of my students may not make it to graduation, college, or careers unless someone intervened on their behalf. I watched as students walked into my classroom already dismissing science because they saw no use for memorizing isolated facts. I strongly believe that education should be accessible to every student and my goal became to support each student and teach them not only the content, but the necessary skills and concepts to ensure they were ready for college and careers. Through my position at Achieve, I now have the honor of working with colleagues every day who believe in the same mission.”
