Kentucky and West Virginia have set an early standard for Common Core implementation. The former undertook a voluntary initiative that saw 100 percent of its school districts commit to the standards at the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year. The latter introduced the standards to its kindergarten classrooms this school year, the beginning of a planned rollout that will culminate with all grades being entrenched in Common Core by 2014-2015.
