Achieve developed a policy brief entitled, "Aligning High School Graduation Requirements with the Real World: A Road Map for States." The Road Map addresses the most frequently cited challenges of policy design as well as strategies for implementation, communication and coalition building. It draws heavily on the experience of early college- and career-ready graduations requirements adopter states.

The goals of this research are to clarify how interim assessments fit into the landscape of formative assessment and to offer recommendations to districts on the appropriate use of interim assessments as part of a broader assessment system.

After conducting a thorough policy analysis, Achieve and Jobs for the Future suggested in this report to North Carolina ways it can create a more coherent, intentional, and aligned assessment and accountability system to improve both achievement and graduation rates for struggling and out-of-school students.

Each year, on the anniversary of the 2005 National Education Summit on High Schools, Achieve releases an annual 50-state progress report on the alignment of high school policies with the demands of college and careers. Closing the Expectations Gap, 2007 is the second annual report in this series.
