November 7, 2013 - Achieve President Michael Cohen today issued the following statement today regarding the results on the 2013 National Assessment of Educational Progress:

"The results of the NAEP show that while scores are up slightly overall, we should look at what's happening in states where gains are the greatest. Tennessee and the District of Columbia deserve a lot of praise for leading the nation in growth with significant gains in both reading and math.

"Tennessee deserves to be singled out as a model for their unwavering and consistent commitment to higher standards. This took many years and remarkably included bipartisan collaboration even when political leadership changed. Through establishment of the Tennessee Diploma Project in 2007, raising standards in 2009 and adopting Common Core in 2010, Governors Bredesen and Haslam, with state board and legislative support, have shown that working together can result in increased achievement for Tennessee's students."
