Tamara Reavis joined Achieve in November 2012 as the Senior Advisor for Assessment Accessibility and Equity.  In this role Tamara will lead efforts to ensure that PARCC assessments are fair and accessible to all students, especially students with disabilities, English language learners, and economically disadvantaged students.  Tamara comes to Achieve with over 19 years of experience in education and has spent the majority of her career serving these students.

Before joining Achieve Tamara served as the Director of Standards, Assessments and Accountability in the District of Columbia’s Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). There she played a significant role in the District’s adoption of the Common Core State Standards, the transition of the current assessment to the Common Core State Standards, and served as the DC representative on the PARCC Leadership Team.  During her time at OSSE, she authored the assessment accommodations manual for students with disabilities and English language learners and improved the assessment policies for these students. Before coming to the District, Tamara taught high school English in North Carolina and Florida, served the English Department Chairperson, and wrote curriculum and interim assessment at both the district and school level.  

Originally from North Carolina, she holds a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte and an M.S. in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University in West Palm Beach, FL.
