Tennessee Prepares Students for Future Jobs

With a new higher standards, Tennessee is ushering in a new era of preparing students for future jobs. This editorial notes that, "In 1975, only 28 per­cent of jobs in the U.S. required more than a high school edu­ca­tion. In 2010, that fig­ure is 80 per­cent. If Ten­nessee is ever to bring its stan­dard of liv­ing into line with the top states, it needs to grad­u­ate a much higher per­cent­age of high school stu­dents and send them on to two– and four-year col­leges, uni­ver­si­ties and tech­ni­cal cen­ters."
