An op-ed in The Week by former Senator Bill Frist (TN) lays out the case for higher standards for all students - and the case for why the Common Core State Standards are a critical step forward. He writes, the Common Core State Standards are "a state-inspired and carefully crafted set of standards — of goals, really — to equip our students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in a global economy."
