Why are you passionate about education?

“Earlier in my career, I spent some time as a Literacy Mentor for preschoolers in Central Harlem, where I grew up. The program was dedicated to enabling young children who are at high risk of reading failure to become competent and enthusiastic readers, writers, listeners and speakers by third grade. I remember being shocked and saddened that at the prime ages of 4 and 5, these students were already identified as high risk for reading failure. My limited time in the classroom led me to want to work toward improving the quality of education and resources available for students in underserved communities like Harlem. Working alongside people who have the same passion for education is what drew me to Achieve. Everyone here works hard to make sure we are providing the best tools and resources to states, districts and partners as they are designing and implementing systems to ensure students in this country have access to a quality education and are graduating from high school college and career ready. Being in a position where I can help attract, hire and retain the best of the best in this space keeps me here at Achieve.”
