All students should graduate from high school ready for college, careers, and citizenship.
ACT's new research report, entitled A First Look at the Common Core and College and Career Readiness, provides an estimate of current student performance on the Common Core State Standards, using ACT college- and career-readiness data. The report offers both instructional and curricular support recommendations, as well as policy considerations for state and federal policymakers that can support teaching and learning of the Common Core.
According to the study, most students have far to go before they master the skills and knowledge outlined in the new common standards that have been adopted by all but seven states. The study is the first to try to identify the ground that must be covered if states and school districts are going to hold their students to the new standards.
