This report, which provides a review of Indiana’s proposed draft 2014 K-12 Content Standards for College and Career Readiness in Mathematics and English Language Arts1, was prepared at the request of Indiana Governor Mike Pence. It is one step in the process initiated in response to Public Law 286, which mandates that the Indiana State Board of Education develop college and career readiness standards for mathematics and English language arts. This occurs in the wake of the state’s decision to reverse the State Board of Education’s adoption of the Common Core State Standards in 2010. Indiana has set a high bar for its new mathematics and English language arts standards and has an aggressive timeline for completing their development and adoption.
