Why are you passionate about education?
“My family, encompassing generations of immigrants and educators, has always instilled in me that education was the number one priority growing up. That was the expectation from my family, my teachers, my peers, my entire ecosystem. As time went by, I learned that, unfortunately, that is not always the case. By setting a low bar for different types of students, those students are robbed of the promise of a bright future, especially when those students are confined to certain district and neighborhood lines. In college, I met someone who had surpassed countless barriers to attend that university. What undoubtedly got him there, was setting a standard for himself that was much higher than the ecosystem established for him in the inner city of New York. This is why I am an advocate for raising standards for all students and why I work to help support other advocates across the country to elevate a united voice around the importance of this work. We shouldn't just be beating the odds, we should be changing the odds.”
