Monday, March 29, 2010Printer-friendly version

The deadline for providing feedback on the first official public draft of the K-12 standards is fast approaching. The National Governors Association (NGA) and the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) encourage those interested to provide further feedback by Friday, April 2, 2010, at www.corestandards.org.

On March 10 the NGA Center and the CCSSO released the draft as part of the Common Core State Standards Initiative (CCSSI), a process being led by governors and chief state school officers in 48 states, the District of Columbia and two territories. These draft standards seek to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce.

Since the release of the draft Common Core State Standards, the NGA Center and CCSSO have thus far received over 4,700 responses. Feedback has been received from national organizations representing, but not limited to, teachers, postsecondary education (including community colleges), civil rights groups, English language learners, and students with disabilities.

Achieve's president Michael Cohen has noted that "This draft deserves the serious attention of educators, parents and policymakers." (Read the Achieve news statement.)
